I get it, you’re done paying a monthly subscription to play online (ahem, Sony). You’re done with expensive games that never go on sale. You’re done with controller stick drift, and you’re done with giant outages.
It seems that nowadays console gamers are finally getting fed up with the shenanigans that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo seem to do far too often. Whether you’re a current console gamer interested in switching to PC, or if you’re not a console gamer and are looking to PC for your first gaming experience, a common sentiment is shared: PC gaming is just too expensive to get into.

The Myth
As I talked about a few days ago, big-box prebuilt companies use the newest parts they can, even if they’re bad value. They use proprietary parts and questionable hardware but still charge a premium for their full computers. It seems like the cheapest gaming PC you can get nowadays that actually has a graphics card is still over $1,000.
Let’s be honest, this price range is simply unattainable for a lot of people, especially when you can just get a PS5 for only $599. When you’re using this device primarily for gaming, it makes sense for the average buyer to just spend their money on a console and call it a day.

The Alternative
I’m here to tell you that there’s a way you can get a custom built gaming computer for the same price or cheaper than a PS5. Imagine spending the same $599 that you could on a PS5, but getting a high-performance computer where you don’t need to pay a monthly subscription to play online, you have more control over the settings of your games, your games go on sale more often (thanks Steam), and it’s upgradable down the line.
The world of refurbished gaming computers allows for this said dream to come true. Computer parts, if taken care of properly, last an absurdly long time. In my experience, generally longer than consoles. And even if something does break down the line, it’s as easy as swapping a new part in instead of getting an entirely new console.
